For the 2005 Bennington Vt Moosefest I created a sculpture called Moosewood, a fiberglass moose covered in pine bark, moss, lichen, and a grape vines.
The idea arose when a friend caught a leaf in her hair. I reminded me of the stories of Charles de Lint, who sometimes writes about creatures that are part plant, part human, and of deep ancient woods, and mysterious spirits.
A moose walking in the forest pauses, and merges with the stillness and spirit of the forest, becoming like a tree. Over time, plants grow on him, and a robin (look at the closeup) makes a nest in his antler. The brightness of his eye (actually a chestnut) shows he is still alert, and he still gets around, is still a moose.
